Too often, college students pass up the amazing opportunity to study abroad. These students have a variety of excuses, but none of these excuses should prevent you from taking advantage of your time in college to live abroad in a foreign country.
Many college students worry about financing their trip, but many schools and study abroad programs offer substantial scholarships specifically for students traveling abroad. As a last resort, you can always take out the same student loans you’re probably already using to finance your education in the United States.
Other students don’t worry about money but worry about homesickness. They fear that even if they do muster the courage to hop on a plane, once they arrive, they’ll be too depressed to enjoy themselves. Although homesickness is practically inevitable, it is usually not overwhelming at all, so do not let it deter you from studying abroad. As long as you keep busy, you should manage just fine.
